North Reading's GIS History
North Reading's GIS history

North Reading's GIS began in 1992 when the Planning and Assessing Departments received a grant to develop a GIS.  The town's paper parcel maps were digitized, as were wetlands and zoning maps.  In 1996 these two departments hired a consultant to serve as the GIS Coordinator. In 1999 that position became a permanent, half-time position serving all town departments.  In the spring of 2003 aerial photography was flown for the town.  Storm water GIS layers are currently being developed.
